| FLIPP 3 stars Flipp is a band that was signed to Hollywood Records back in 1996 and released their self-titled debut on the label in 1997. I would assume that due to poor sales, they were subsequently dropped. They released another album on their own label entitled Blow It Out Your Ass and then they were picked up by Popularity/Artemis. This band is over the top in both style and music. They take on a glam roll, not that different than that of Mott The Hoople or Cheap Trick pumped up a bit for the current decade. On Volume the tracks reek of radio friendly tracks but in a way that they will probably never see it. The reason might be their pompousness. With tracks like “Rock N Roll Star” and “Cock Rock” you can sense their confidence in themselves. On the track “I Still Love Rock N Roll” Flipp take their cues from Everclear. In fact, isn’t that an Everclear song? Oh, that’s just Art Alexakis with producing credits. Fact of the matter is, it’s not that hard to get into Flipp’s music. They are just out for fun. Let’s hope they can make a bit of money while they are at it. |
