A very patriotic rock fan Have you ever been covered with feathers during a concert? No? Well, there's a first time for everything, right? At the 11th annual Locobazooka "United We Rock" on Sunday, September 22nd, the crowds had dozens of feathers poured down on them by U.S. Army Reserves during the performance of Flipp. This was the best performance of the entire daylong rock festival for sure, but let's get back to that later. (EDIT) The band to top all other bands was Flipp. They stole the spotlight by far. Acts like Ra and 3rd Strike were great musicians, but Flipp had the whole act down. What was so impressive about this Minnesota band? I'll start with the fact that Kilo Balo, the drummer, actually got injured before they went on. Some equipment fell on him. Was he in pain? Yep. But insane, hardcore rockers go on stage no matter what. So he went out and gave us the performance of a lifetime. Then there was the absurd trio at the front of the stage. Vocalist Brynn "The Schizo Boy" Arens had his face painted half black and half white. On their website, it is stated this symbolizes "his personality being half sick and half crazy." Interesting. And his actions truly lived up to this, as he dragged fans on stage, including a blonde that really did not know how to play the guitar. He also got people to flip him off if they wanted him to continue singing. Arens was so crazy that he really did not want to leave the stage after his stint was up. WAAF actually shut his microphone off. Ouch. Chia Karaoke is one of two guitarists for the band. His attire was supposed to look like the latest karaoke fashion, but he really looked more like an Elton John wannabe. Then there is Freaky Useless, who looks like he just came out of the eighties, with his nice mohawk. The most promising thing about him, other than his perfect instrumentals, was his Space Odyssey 2000 Jetpack. What was so interesting about this? At the end of Flipp's performance, his rocket sprayed out tons and tons of sparks, making the front of the crowd engulfed in smoke. (EDIT) Altogether, with
the over twenty bands, three stages, thousands of fans, the festival
was a great success. No matter who was there or what band they were
there for, united we rocked. As the radio station slogan says, "WAAF
is only the station that really rocks!" *** Sections of this article not pertaining to Flipp have been edited out. |
