FLIPP, ''Blow It Out Your Ass'' (Rock Steady/Boxov) With a barrage of pop divas and armies of boy bands flooding the music scene, it's nearly impossible to find a high-energy rock band with an edge,?. almost impossible. Welcome one and all to the Schizo Ball. Enter Flipp with an all out assault of guitar driven tunes, gutsy teenage rampage lyrics, and a combination of visuals and individual stage presence to stir the senses. Move over Bubblegum Britneys and Backstreet dudes, there's hope stirring in the trenches, and Flipp is here to prove that rebellion, glam and showmanship are all still very much alive and well in rock and roll. The four-piece band from Minneapolis have just launched their sophomore assault, Blow It Out Your Ass! on the Rock Steady label, the reborn company credited for much of KISS' success in the 70's. Members of the KISS Army will also take note that Flipp, with all their flamboyant antics, stage presence and outrageous style are also managed by former KISS manager Bill Aucoin. Blow It Out Your Ass! is a superbly produced album with eleven new tracks filled with enough energy to flipp your soul, shake your ass and bend your twisted little minds. It's Sergeant Pepper meets the Sex Pistols, Ziggy Stardust meets the Clash and Zappa meets Saturday morning cartoons. Flipp's latest is a full tilt gem of rock musicianship filled with spirit, attitude and 100% originality. The pseudo punk, glam and rock mix is a genuine combination of crunchy and rich guitar riffs, heavy percussion and the home of frontman Brynn's signature poetic craziness, all combined for a psycho Dr. Seuss gone mad quality. Flipp make no excuses and go for full impact on every track from the start of track one Rockstar to the final cut Whole World's Sick. Along the way, insanity and rock and roll collide with standouts like La De Da, Ultra Cool, Psycho Babble, WOW, Hair Do and Cock Rock. The big shoed, outlandish, big and no haired band also succeed with original Flipp ballads Zoom and Mr. Potato Head. Blow It Out Your Ass! also features a hidden treasure, Flipp's cover of the Who's classic, My Generation, originally recorded for FLIPP's self titled debut release, but has since only been available on the advance promotional copies of the release on Hollywood Records. Brynn best sums up the attitude of the new album as he shouts out "Get it through you head, Rock and Roll ain't dead." Once again, Rock and Roll raises it's head, steps out front with big shoes and glittery screaming guitars and demands attention. Flipp is a much needed rock and roll enema and Blow It Out Your Ass! is a winning royal flush. |
